I've tried every setting I could find, and I've also tried deleting and reinstalling both languages via add dictionary. Note that is is generally not recommended to edit files used by Firefox while Firefox is running. As far as I'm concerned, the problem is on the Update to version 23 itself, and not on my side, as on version 22 everything worked perfectly. I added a spanish dictionary to firefox as I sometimes email spanish speakers.
